Ranks and Promotion Requirements

All members wishing to be promoted in rank must complete the appropriate promotion application for their rank found in the promotion forum.  Ranks are listed here from low to high.

The Honorary Rank - This is the rank for "honored" guests of our guild.

This rank is for non-initiates and/or alts of people who have already been officially accepted into the guild. This rank can also occasionally be used for allowing possible recruits a temporary peek into the goings-on of our guild in order to help them decide to officially apply to our guild.

Honoraries are able to view both in-character guild chat and out-of-character chat if they so choose. Honoraries will not be expected to attend guild events or activities, but are expected to uphold Children of Eternity's ideals and adhere to our policies.

Honoraries do not have access to the guild bank, and Honoraries that are alts of existing members can only withdraw from the guild bank through that player's main character in the guild.

In the event that an Honorary is not an alt and has not yet applied to the guild, their status is temporary and they will be removed if they have not taken action to officially join the guild or if their application is not accepted immediately.

As Honorary is the lowest rank in the guild, official members who are new recruits will initially show in the guild roster at the Honorary rank. New recruits who are not alts and have taken the necessary steps to secure their membership will be immediately promoted to the rank of Scion. All official members are expected to have at least one character in the guild that fulfills those steps and holds the rank of at least Scion. New recruits that do not fulfill the necessary steps to secure their memberships will not remain Honoraries indefinitely.

Scion (the root of a tree with many branches) - This is the initiate rank.

Scions are very important members of the guild. In becoming an official guild member and taking the rank of Scion, the member has already completed an important step, which is to think about the way in which they will be able to contribute to the guild as a player.

Although potential recruits have already been instructed to know the guild principles and policies, it is the duty of a Scion to make sure that they retain these ideals and rules. As Scions, those members display the guild name and are expected to behave as any member of any rank would in representing the guild. Scions have limited but sufficient access to the guild bank and can see the member-only forums on our website. As such, Scions are also expected to actively participate in the guild, both in-game on our website. Many discussions about guild activities and business take place on our forums, and the opinions of all members should be taken into consideration. Therefore, it is important to maintain a presence and pay attention to guild news as presented on the site and in the guild message of the day in-game. Scions are also expected to make an honest and considerable effort to participate in the discussions on their team's forums and the guild's in game activities. Scions are fully expected to display the guild tabard, and acquiring that tabard is the responsibility of the member.

Before a Scion can apply for the rank of Envoy, their character must reach at least level ten and they must have fulfilled the duties of a Scion for a period of at least one month, unless deemed unnecessary by the officers of the guild for reasons which pertain to the needs of the guild.

Once a Scion applies to become an Envoy in the appropriate forum, they should pay attention to their application thread in order to answer any questions that may arise. Their application will be viewable to and considered by all members of the guild, but the final decision to promote lies with the Ancients and Eternal Oracle.

Envoy (a representative) - This is the standard rank.

By the time a member achieves the rank of Envoy, they have fulfilled all the requirements of a Scion and have proven themselves valuable to the guild by knowing the guild's ideals, principles, and policies and by participating actively in the forums and activities of the guild.

Envoys are expected to continue in these efforts, as well as continuing to level up and display the guild tabard. Envoys have more access to the guild bank than Scions, and since they are now level ten or above, they are expected to actively interact with the bank by making deposits that will benefit or help level other members and their skills. As Envoys, members should set a good example for Scions and potential recruits and in all ways exemplify our guild and ideals.

In doing so, the Envoy should also continue to make active contributions to both their own team's forums and activities and any other guild activities they might be able to participate in. This is necessary to advance further in rank.

Before applying for the rank of Executor, an Envoy should have already achieved at least level 20 in the game and be confident that they have fulfilled the duties of their rank. They should also have served as an Envoy for a period of at least two months, unless this period is deemed unnecessary by the officers for reasons relating to the needs of the guild.

Once an Envoy applies to become an Executor in the appropriate forum, they should pay attention to their application thread in order to answer any questions that may arise. Their application will be viewable and considered by all members of the guild, but the final decision to promote is that of the Ancients and Eternal Oracle.

Executor (a person who carries out or puts into effect) - This is the officer rank.

As an officer of Children of Eternity, the Executor must understand the guild ideals, policies and principles more than any other member. When in doubt, they will be expected to refer to the official, written descriptions which are accessible on the guild's website, or refer to an Ancient or the guild leader when in doubt.

At the officer rank, Executors now have more access to the guild bank and can now view the officer-only forums on the guild's website. Important officer-only discussions take place here so it is important that the Executor now take on the additional responsibility of participating in them as well as the common guild forums.  They should also pay special attention to the recruitment and promotion forums, commenting where necessary.

Another additional responsibility of the Executor is to help moderate the in-game chat channels and help maintain an atmosphere of the guild in keeping with our ideals and policies. The principles of Individuality, Balance, Loyalty and Respect apply to both in-character and out-of-character chat channels and in-game events. The Executor is allowed to participate in the in-game officer-only chat channel in order to help with this delegation.

Executors are expected to continue to show respect to all members, exemplify our standards, live up to our ideals and policies, actively participate in their teams and guild business and events, interact with the guild bank in a manner that benefits all members of the guild, display the guild tabard, and actively uphold their role while acting as an example to lower ranks of the guild. Executors are also expected to show their willingness to regard enemies with respect and have an open communication with other officers established.

Before an Executor can apply for the rank of Ancient, they must have served at the officer rank and fulfilled those duties admirably for a period of at least two months, unless deemed unnecessary by the other officers for reasons pertaining to the needs of the guild. As Ancients serve as team organizers, an Executor should display ability as a future team leader before they can be promoted.

Once an Executor applies to become an Ancient in the appropriate forum, they should pay attention to their application thread in order to answer any questions that may arise. Additional questions may also be discussed in the officer-only forums. Their actual application will be viewable and considered by all members of the guild, but the final decision to promote belongs to the existing Ancients and Eternal Oracle. As the number of Ancients in our guild is limited to three, no Executor may apply for promotion unless an Ancient position is available.

Ancient (time-honored) - This is the high council rank.

Ancients are expected to uphold all responsibilities of the guild including, but not limited to, maintaining the rules and ideals of the guild and a corresponding atmosphere within the guild as a whole, paying attention to the guild news and forums - especially those of the officers and those which pertain to important guild decisions, displaying the guild tabard, interacting positively with the guild bank, participating in guild activities and chat, paying particular attention to the recruitment and promotion forums and commenting where necessary, moderating guild chat, respecting enemies and representing the guild well to others, and running or helping to run their team.

Ancients also have the additional responsibility of helping lower-ranking members withdraw items from the guild bank if the lower ranking members are unable to for a satisfactory reason. As such, Ancients are given more access to the guild bank than any other rank. Ancients also collectively make the decision whether or not members are admitted to the guild or promoted, along with the Eternal Oracle. Another privilege of Ancients is to make calls and set the rules for certain facets of the game within our guild, including events, rules and policies. The guild leader depends on the advice and interest of the Ancients, and is answerable to them in the event that she does not do her job properly. (Read the description of the Eternal Oracle rank for more information on this.)

Ancients are entrusted with using good judgment and helping guide Executors in the ways of moderating and running the guild, as well as acting in manner that displays their ability as an Ancient. The reasoning of the guild leader and other officers should never be called in to question by the behavior of an Ancient. The only rank serving above Ancient is the guild leader (unless it is determined by the high council and guild leader - under advisement of the Executors - that the position of High Ancient be opened).

(High Ancient (leading/senior Ancient) - This rank is for the leader of the high council and second-in-command to the guild leader.

The High Ancient serves same purpose as all other Ancients, except that they are able to step into the guild leader position when the guild leader is absent or unable to participate. The High Ancient position is never open and can not be applied for unless the high council and guild leader deem it necessary or in the best interest of the guild to do so.

When the High Ancient position is filled, this Ancient is given the same in-game privileges as the guild leader in order that they may help officiate the business of the guild and other ranks, except for the guild bank. However, they are given a significant amount of access to the guild bank so that they may manage it in the event that the guild leader is unable to, and are expected to treat this responsibility with discretion and respect. The High Ancient is expected to act in a manner that displays their ability in the position even more so than Ancients are. If the High Ancient behaves in a manner that calls the judgment of the other officers/leaders in putting him/her into that position into question, they will be demoted to a more appropriate rank. This position is not to be taken lightly.)

Eternal Oracle (guide, mentor) - This is the guild leader rank.

The rank of Eternal Oracle is an even heftier responsibility than that of the Ancients (and High Ancient, when that position is open/filled). The guild leader is expected to meet all the standards of all the other ranks.

Additional responsibilities of the guild leader include maintaining organization in the guild bank (which includes selling and auctioning items responsibly and being able to report on the management of the guild bank openly to ensure that responsibility), maintaining the guild website and forums, overseeing the general business of the guild, consistently working to improve the guild and overseeing the direction the guild takes, seeing that the needs of all members and ranks are met as much as is possible, and the guild leader is responsible more-so than any other rank for the overall morale and condition of the guild and its members.

As such, the guild leader should allow for decisions to be made by the guild as a whole, as represented with good sense by the officers and high council and should listen to and try to understand all perspectives with an aim of objectivity. In the event that a guild decision is not made as expediently as is necessary, or in the event that the guild leader, after careful deliberation, passionately feels a decision is not in the best interest of the guild as a whole; the guild leader may make the decision or override the decision at her mindful and cautious discretion.

Should the guild leader ever act in a manner inappropriate to the position, it is the duty of the Ancients to bring this to her attention in an expedient and intelligible manner. It should never be the purposeful, malicious intention of the guild leader to usurp the guild, officers, or ideals and principles. Likewise, it should not be the purposeful or malicious intention of the other guild members to undermine her position or call her decisions into question in a manner that is detrimental to the guild as a whole.

In the event that the actions of the guild leader are called into question or deemed inappropriate, it is her responsibility to the guild and members to carefully reconsider those actions and/or explain them openly and honestly. In such an event, the officers should listen to and try to understand all perspectives with the same level of objectivity that the guild leader is expected to uphold.
